Mowing Tips for New Zealand Lawns

Mowing is the most important task in maintaining a healthy, attractive lawn. Correct mowing height and frequency help improve lawn density, colour, and overall performance.

General Mowing Guidelines

Mow frequently and only when the lawn is dry.
Never remove more than one‑third of the leaf blade in a single mow.
Mow weekly during active growth and reduce frequency during cooler or very hot periods.
Always use sharp mower blades.
Mulch mowing is acceptable when mowing frequently enough for clippings to remain short and break down quickly.
If the lawn is overgrown, always use a catcher.
Do not mow lawns showing signs of severe heat stress.
